What Else to Do on Your Skiing Holiday post thumbnail image

Aside from skiing, there are so many other winter activities to do so make sure you make time for them too.

Skiing holidays can take you all over the world including old favourites France, Austria and Switzerland as well as newly tipped resorts in Andorra and Bulgaria. VeryCheapHolidays have a great selection of deals to suit every budget and experience level; or if you plan to take a few days off from skiing while you’re there then read on for inspiration…

If you want exhilarating views without the body strain then get yourself to Zermatt in Switzerland and whizz down their toboggan run. To reach the mid-mountain starting point you will hop aboard a small train up to the Matterhorn before heading down the designated track. If you are tobogganing in a group assigning checkpoints along the route is advisable, i.e. every 500 metres. Rental for toboggans is around $7 per day.

A mere 30 minute tram ride away from the Austrian village of Innsbruck is the resort of Igls. The quaint town offers a great combination of shopping and sightseeing ideal for those who resemble Bambi on ice. The clear, cobbled paths wind through the picturesque resort yet if you want to soar to dizzying heights then a gondola ride will gift you with the stunning views you came for.

Sleigh Riding

Most ski resorts don’t allow standard cars in the village but to compensate many have horse-drawn carriages! So whether you want some help carrying your shopping back to the chalet or fancy spending your afternoon riding around the various trails via horse then hail a sleigh and go for a jingle-bell ride.

Whether you are a new to snowmobiling or a regular rider, this is an activity you simply must try. The beginners rides include a 2 hour tour of old forests and nearby frozen lakes; a safe and exciting environment for trialling this fun winter sport.

If you fancy delving into trickier terrain and narrower trails then a 2-4 hour tour is available which takes riders to the Ancient Cedar Forest or Cougar Mountain. Expect amazing views of stunning scenery and deep powder – don’t forget your camera.

Fondue Party

If you fancy the ultimate candle-light fondue experience topped off with fine wine then Whistler is the ski resort for you. At the peak of Blackcomb Mountain (6000ft) you and your loved ones will receive a 4 hour tour featuring sumptuous food and the best musical entertainment from the local area.  Check out all Whistler snow activities here.
